Snorkeling in Puerto Rico

11 sites in this guide have a current source saying snorkelers use them — shallow reef tops, sheltered shore entries and lagoons. Each site page shows exactly what the source says.

Before you get in

  • Check the sea state

North and west coasts get big winter swell; some spots are only calm roughly mid-April to October. Use the live conditions page.

  • Watch for boats

Several sites are used by dive and fishing boats. Stay close to shore or use a dive flag and float.

  • Mind the current

Currents can pull you along a beach or away from a pier. Snorkel with a buddy and know your exit.

  • Respect protected areas

Many reefs are inside DRNA reserves: don't stand on coral, touch or take anything, and check current rules.
